Support our swimming pool construction project at Lake Bunyonyi in Western Uganda
Every year, around 40 people drown in Lake Bunyonyi in western Uganda. In response, a collaborative project has been launched by the Planetrise Cultural and Environmental Association, the Jane Goodall Institute, and the Hungarian Volunteer League (MÖL), with the support of Hungary Helps.
Of course, the project is being implemented with the involvement and consent of the local community, as it would not be effective without their participation.
The goal is to create a fenced-off swimming area that provides a safe environment for children and enables swimming lessons to take place – ideally with the help of a local instructor.
Planning and material procurement took place in May and June, and by early July, the construction of the circular floating platform could begin. The completed structure meets the project's safety and functional goals, so swimming instruction is set to begin shortly. The construction project is led by Wiberforce Wama, who has been recruiting and coordinating local workers. We owe him much gratitude and appreciation!
We hope that once the swimming team is formed, Uganda's first water polo team will also come to life. Exciting challenges ahead!
