Let's Join Forces: Ugandan Children Are in Danger
You probably remember that in 2022 we travelled to Uganda with the Jane Goodall Institute as part of the project "Harbours and School Boats to Uganda!", supported by Hungary Helps. At the school on Bwama Island, located on Lake Bunyonyi, around 400 children attend classes – but only a few of them know how to swim.
The children – and even the adults – are in serious danger, because if you don't learn to swim as a child, you won't know how to swim as an adult either.
We've decided to change that. This year, we're building a mobile pool on the top of the island, and from August, we'll start swimming lessons. Our goal is to eventually create Uganda's first water polo team as well! The current football team is called the Bunyonyi Lions, but what should we name the water polo team? Let us know your ideas!
The fundraising campaign launched by us and the Planetrise Cultural and Environmental Association aims to build a floating swimming platform and cover the costs of swimming instructors. We also need to purchase various swimming aids, so we've created different donation levels to support this.
